The Healthcare Distribution Alliance (HDA), for the second year in a row, is conducting a DSCSA readiness survey, and LSPediA is a proud sponsor of the 2017 effort. The results will be shared industry wide during the HDA’s annual Traceability Seminar, held November 8-10 in Washington, D.C.
Survey questions have been sent to 600 pharmaceutical manufacturers with the goal of gaining important insight into their DSCSA and serialization compliance efforts, and understanding the flow of serialized product and data to wholesale distributors. The survey results will provide important data points for the FDA and for wholesalers as they make serialization implementation decisions.
Last year’s survey results shed light on aggregation struggles: They revealed that 33 percent of manufacturers don’t plan to aggregate, and 53.4 percent of manufacturers don’t think they will send aggregated shipment data starting November 2017. One can make the connection between the 2016 survey result and the industry’s new push to design and develop the Verification Router Services that bypasses the need for aggregation. Given the FDA’s recent decision to delay enforcement of the product identifier requirement, the results of this year’s survey will be especially interesting, and are sure to provide the industry with business-relevant insights.
We encourage every company who received the survey to take part. Serialization touches everyone in the pharma supply chain, and your voice will help ensure the process works for all parties. Recipients have until August 4, 2017, to complete the survey, and all information submitted is strictly confidential. The project is being conducted by the HDA Research Foundation, with Industry Insights, a third party survey research organization, administering the survey and aggregating the information.
